Registration is now open for staff members to serve as at undergraduate ceremonies June 12-14 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
There are 16 different roles to choose from such as arena floor marshal, guest greeter, Gunrock handler and even Gunrock himself. There are also two new roles this year, the ceremony prep and breakdown roles. Those who have experience being a Commencement Ambassador can sign up to be commencement leads. Ambassador leads will assist in training fellow ambassadors, support event operations and help the event run smoothly.

When you sign up, you can list role preferences and the event staff will try to accommodate them. The planning staff will also be flexible with assignments in order to accommodate different abilities.
one each morning and two in the afternoons of Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13. Though the ceremonies are estimated to last for two hours, ambassadors must be able to commit to a five-hour shift. The commencement planning team estimates that they will need 50-60 people for each ceremony.
In order to be an ambassador, you must also be available to attend a virtual info session or watch a recording of the session.
As a token of appreciation, you will receive gifts of a $75 Visa gift card, a Commencement Ambassador T-shirt, a lanyard with a commencement name tag, and a parking voucher, a meal and non-alcoholic drinks for each ceremony you attend.
Yannelli Mejia, events coordinator for Ceremonies and Special Events, said being an ambassador is also a rewarding experience.
“You’re helping create a space where students and their loved ones can fully enjoy the moment,” Mejia said. “It also reminds staff why they do the work they do. Being in that environment of pride and joy really brings it all full circle.”
